WORSHIP AND THE ARTS
We are currently seeking singers, musicians, Eucharistic ministers, and acolytes to assist in blended worship.
The music ministry to be formed, which includes a choir and orchestra, a praise band, soloists, and ensembles, is called Treasures, based on Matthew 13:52, And he said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.”
We believe in congregational singing; so, Treasures will lead and assist in worship but not dominate the service.
Also forming is an acting and dancing troupe called The Passion Players (Galatians 3:1).
Christ Church is a liturgical church with contemporary elements, sometimes called blended worship. The thought behind ritualized worship is explained very well in this video: https://youtu.be/M5R2m221wMw
The Daily Office of the Anglican Church is a system of devotions, that is, Bible lessons and prayers, which assist us in focusing on the Lord throughout every day. It can be used individually but also in families and small groups.
Christ Church recommends four times of prayer a day. These times correspond to normal and natural activities that are easy to track, called canonical hours:
We know when the sun comes up
We know when the sun goes down
We know when the sun is straight overhead
We know when it’s time to go to bed.
These times correspond to the traditional hours of prayer called matins, sext (noon-time), vespers/evensong, and compline. We also recommend blessings for meals. Altogether a person might pray seven times a day (Psalm 119:164).
The schedule of Scripture lessons each day can be found here.
We are currently seeking small group leaders for a teaching ministry based on THE SPIRITUAL PATH by Father Michael. Other studies easily spin off from that initial guidance in spiritual formation as each group operates with relative autonomy.
Home-based small groups are the most effective means of discipleship. Such groups are dedicated to personal spiritual formation, including basic Christian friendship to each other. That means members of the various groups would love one another, pray for one another, walk together, and serve one another in practical ways when any has an urgent need. Each group sets their own schedule for study and social activities. Group leaders are a link to the professional staff at church, ensuring pastoral care for all of God’s flock.
If you would like to join a small group or start one, host one in your home or become a leader, please, call Father Michael at (325) 574-9934.
But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 19:14)
